Xela Spanish Schools

Last year I decided I wanted to learn Spanish. I hadn’t studied any languages since College in 1990 and had forgotten most of my German. So, before learning Spanish I spent the a few months this last summer in Germany brushing up on my German before moving onto a new language. By October, I felt my German was excellent, so I was ready for Spanish. After checking around, I found some of the best–and cheapest–Spanish schools are in Guatemala. There are two main cities with dozens of Spanish schools: Quetzeltenanago (Xela) and Antigua. When in America, I was told the better schools were in Xela, so thats where I started. The program here is four hours of spanish each day plus home stay living with a Guatemalan family. We get three meals a day, seven days a week. Total cost for Spanish school, meals and lodging is $680 a month (cost at El Munde en Español School). To me, this was the perfect opportunity to escape the winter snow and learn Spanish in a warmer environment.
