Boat Trip to Rio Dulce
You never know with boat trips from one city to the next. More often than not thy are horrifying experiences where you spend most of the ride puking into plastic bags (i.e. from the main land to Utila). The boat ride from Livingston to Rio Dulce is almost the polar opposite; it is a smooth ride, pleasant sun, cool breezes and majestic scenery. There are two rides offered, the morning ride is two hours and is considered to be a ‘tour’ whereas the afternoon one our trip is ‘directo’ from point A to B with no extras. I took the morning trip which included a stop at a natural hot springs on the edge of the river, a side trip through a natural lilly pond area (except it technically isn’t a pond since it is on the edge of the river) and a side excursion around a small ‘bird island’ with hundreds of birds (I have no idea what they were!). The last treat was to go past the micro sized castle that guarded the river near Rio Dulce in the 1700s.
