Review: H-BurgerCO

burgerLast night I went to the sneak-preview restaurant opening of H-BurgerCO (http://www.hburgerco.com/) here in Denver–a somewhat exclusive promotional night specifically aimed at the media in order to promote the new restaurant. H-BurgerCO is a trendy, slick new gourmet burger restaurant in downtown Denver (LoDo). The place itself has a contemporary-modern, trendy look-and-feel which is now becoming popular (I’m a big fan of modernism and specifically mid-century modern architecture). Think Ikea or Dwell magazine and you get the picture. I do think they should run some carpet in the place to cut down on the acoustic echo which I found annoying.

The food was excellent. It reminded me of what Chipolte did for the Taco Bell experience… taking it to the next level of gourmet but not breaking the bank. However, unlike Chipolte, you have sit down ordering and service, as well as a trendy bar for unique alcohol drinks.

  • Some of the awesome food items include the following:
  • Gourmet H-Burgers (really yummy–my favorite)
  • Gourmet Turkey Burger (good, but not my favorite)
  • Gourmet Veggie Burger (again, quite good, but not the best)
  • Gourmet Roast Beef (tasty, but I’m a little freaked by blood red meat which I’m sure is gourmet, but still troubling to me)
  • Drinks (I had a soda and tried the marsh mellow milkshake)
  • Nitrogen chilled beer (I didn’t try this, but apparently it’s the coldest way to have beer)
  • Liquid Nitrogen + Alcohol + Ice cream (I didn’t try this, but sounds quite fun!)

Desserts

  • Nutella Marshmellow Shake (quite delicious, but the samples provided only had a mini straw and no spoon to get marshmellows out of the cup short of finishing the shake and tipping the paper cup)
  • That’s about all I tried. The small mini-samples were served in paper cups. Burgers were miniature in size which was awesome because it allowed me to have four of five without filling up.

Conclusion: Would I actually go and have a paying dinner at H-BurgerCO? I would have to say yes, but only if one were located closer to me in lakewood. H-BurgerCO’s first location is right on 16th Street Mall and I’m not a huge fan of parking downtown to go eat when there are so many other places closer that I can get easy parking. If H-BurgerCO opened a location in BelMar or somewhere close, I’d take a date there. It’s a cool, trendy gourmet burger spot with a nice, modern techie twist to the way they mak and present their food–highly recommended!
