Hong Kong New Year Celebration 2013
I’ve seen quite a few fireworks shows over the years for both the 4th of July as well as new years. I’ve also been fortunate enough to work with a good friend who is a pyrotechnic professional where I learned to make shells for fire works (four and six inch shells). As a result, I have a great appreciation for what goes into a fireworks show. When I say that Hong Kong has a spectacular fireworks show I hope you’ll understand that I don’t give out compliments like that lightly. The New Years show for 2013 was more than spectacular, it was fabulous.
One of the bonuses Hong Kong has for fireworks is the island and harbor. The way the show reflects on the water gives you an double pyrotechnic bonus for the half the work. For the show, they setup up the fireworks on the roofs of about a dozen buildings right on the shoreline with the side of one building showing the countdown and then gigantic numbers for 2013. Of course the whole event is carefully coordinated between the fireworks and music which begins just after the countdown. The fireworks show lasts for about 10 minutes and has plenty of variety in color and style with less of the flower style firework shells and more of the rocket and flare variety. I thoroughly enjoyed the show and highly recommend it for anyone in Hong Kong December 31st.
